My view on lockdown

When we were told by the Government to stay home, back in February 2020, I don’t think any of us knew how to react. I certainly didn’t, but I saw it as a really good opportunity to get painting.

This is my take on the view I’ve been looking at every day since then! In the 2 years I’ve lived in the flat, I’ve taken countless photos of this view, capturing a variety of dramatic skies… we are in Glasgow after all!

Inspiration for this particular painting came just after a pretty heavy rain shower, with some seriously threatening clouds. The palette I used for the sky does not over-egg the drama one bit, it was pretty captivating! With a glimmer of light coming from the top right, I couldn’t help but think about the parallel with the pandemic. With all the challenges - including uncertainty at work, missing family and friends, and generally having our freedom removed completely, it did feel like we were in the middle of a storm, weighed down by a deep grey sky. But that light definitely reminded me that storms pass, and at some point, we will return to normal.
